    Where Art Meets Life

Travel Slow, See Deep — Biennale 2025 Is the Time to Feel Kochi. Beyond the Art Walls — Discover Kochi’s Living Islands, Backwaters & Local Stories

Why This Biennale Is a Must-Visit

    • The sixth edition of the Kochi‑Muziris Biennale — titled “For the Time Being” — opens on 12 December 2025 and runs through 31 March 2026 across multiple heritage venues in and around Fort Kochi, Mattancherry & Willingdon Island.

    • This edition features 66 artists/collectives from more than 20 countries, expanding to ~30 venues including 22 major sites.

    • The curatorial vision places the city and its waterways at the heart of the exhibition, engaging with Kochi’s port-history, canals, and layered cultural geography.

How to Turn Your Biennale Visit into a Full Day of Activities

Here’s how you can pair your art-exploration with immersive, experience-rich tours in and around Kochi:

🖼 Morning: Art & Heritage Walk

    • Start at Fort Kochi, where many Biennale venues reside. Take a heritage walk past colonial-era buildings, street art, and the early exhibition spaces of the Biennale.

    • Visit key spots like Aspinwall House, Pepper House, and the warehouse-spaces being retasked for the Biennale.

    • Use this time to soak in the layered history of Kochi—Portuguese, Dutch, Jewish, spice-trade and art-trade—before diving into the art.

    🚤 Mid-day: Backwater / Island Activity

    • After your museum-walk, refresh with an aquatic experience: join an e-boat cruisemangrove kayak, or island-hopping e-bike tour out around the Kochi backwaters. This gives you a vivid contrast between the built heritage of the city and its natural, watery periphery.

    • Many of the island-areas (Kadamakudy, Kothad etc.) are easily accessible and offer peace, paddles and paddocks after your urban immersion.

🎨 Afternoon: Biennale Deep-Dive & Cultural Café Stop

    • Post-lunch head back to Biennale venues. With 30+ sites spread across the city, you can choose a theme or zone (e.g., Mattancherry-Willingdon corridor) and immerse yourself in contemporary installations, performances and local-artist led workshops.

    • Pause at a local café in Mattancherry or Fort Kochi to reflect, perhaps in one of the art-shop cafés.

🌅 Evening: Sunset by the Sea & Reflection

    • End your day by the Chinese Fishing Nets or at a rooftop café overlooking the sea in Fort Kochi, where the light softens and the art-walks of the day can sink in.

    • Bonus: if your Biennale tickets include evening performances or film-screenings, use this calm-hour to prepare for that.

Why Combine Art + Ecosystem + Experience?

    • The Biennale’s expansion into new venues across Kochi means you’ll see more than just gallery walls—you’ll traverse canals, ferry-links, back-streets and heritage zones.

    • This makes it ideal for a multi-dimensional trip: art, heritage, nature and local life all in one package.

    • For a traveller interested in sustainable and slow tourism—like what you already pursue with your brand—this offering aligns neatly with your narrative: authenticity, community, experience.
